Fast Car

You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere

Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove

-Tracy Chapman

Five years goes by within the blink of an eye.

The first time I photographed Sarah and Zachary was on their wedding day. I recall being in awe of the two of them - their energy just seemed to mesh with one another. One of those pairings that just makes sense (if that makes any sense).

As the years have gone on, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph more special milestones in their lives - when they were awaiting for their daughter to arrive (and after), as well as a family session last autumn.

When Zachary messaged me with this idea to go back to the coast to celebrate their anniversary, you can bet I was on board. Prior to this, I hadn’t been to the coast all summer (thanks, Covid). I brought along my family (turns out our daughters are two peas in a pod), and we had the best time.

On the way, I had been day dreaming of beautiful golden light to reflect upon the waves, but as luck would have it, that didn’t happen this time. Instead, we were met with cold winds, clouds, and seemingly doom and gloom. However, as we made our way down the steps (which triggered deep-rooted memories of going down those same steps as a small child, counting as I went down), the sun started to peek out.

Turns out, the lighting was absolutely perfect. Soft, delicate, and dreamy.

As we walked along, I couldn’t help but notice the way Zachary would look over at Sarah - the same loving gaze as five years prior. I don’t know about you, but that filled my heart with joy.

Overall, this was a great session. We had a surprise visitor at one point (the black lab), and they even braved the chilly waters (aesthetic, am I right)? Bonus points as I was actually able to snag some shots with their daughter (as I am the camera lady, I don’t think she trusts me).

Afterwards, we all hung out and made tacos, and the girlies enjoyed ice cream. 10/10 would road trip to the beach and photograph again.
